If you own a car or a motorcycle in the Philippines, you need to register it with the Land Transportation Office (LTO) and renew your registration every year. This is not only a legal requirement but also a way to ensure the safety and security of pedestrians and other commuters on the road. However, many people dread the LTO car registration renewal process, as it can be complicated and time-consuming. It can be even worse if you have to go to an LTO office and queue for hours.
Fortunately, there is now a more convenient and hassle-free way to renew your vehicle registration online using the LTO’s Land Transportation Management System (LTMS) portal. This online system allows you to submit your documents, pay your fees, and receive your official receipt without going to an LTO satellite office. All you need is a computer or a smartphone with an internet connection and a record of motor vehicle registration renewal using the LTMS portal.
In this article, we will guide you through the steps of renewing your vehicle registration online using the LTMS portal. We will also provide you with some tips and reminders to make your online renewal experience smooth and easy.
Requirements for Online Vehicle Registration Renewal
If you want to renew your vehicle registration online, you need to meet some requirements before you can proceed. You need to have a Land Transport Management System (LTMS) Portal account that is linked to your motor vehicle. You also need to make sure that your last renewal transaction was done using the LTMS and that your Certificate of Registration (CR) has the correct name of the current owner.
However, if this is your first time using the online renewal process, you will still have to visit an LTO district office and let them handle the transaction for you using the LTMS portal. This way, your vehicle details will be recorded in the system, and you will be able to access them in the future. The next time you need to renew your registration, you can simply log in to the LTMS portal and follow the online process on your own.

Online Registration Process
Although the renewal process is done online, you still have to go outside and accomplish some things before you proceed. Some of the documents that you need are not available online, and you have to obtain them in person. To help you more, here is a step-by-step guide on how to process your vehicle registration renewal via the LTO Portal:
Step 1: Get a Certificate of Coverage
Look for a reputable insurance provider and get third-party liability insurance. They will electronically transmit the COC to the LTMS.
Step 2: Secure a Motor Vehicle Inspection Report
To ensure that your vehicle is safe and compliant with the standards, you need to bring it to a Private Motor Vehicle Inspection Center (PMVIC) for inspection. The PMVIC will assess the condition of your vehicle and electronically transmit the inspection report to the Land Transport Management System (LTMS).
Step 3: Process the Renewal using LTMS
Log into the LTMS portal with your account and click the Vehicle icon to be able to select the vehicle that needs to be renewed. Click the Next button to proceed until you reach the verification stage.
The system will automatically fill in the Certificate of Coverage (COC) and the Inspection Report Number based on the data sent by the PMVIC, so you don’t need to manually enter them. Validate and verify the COC and inspection report by clicking the arrows under the Verify column. The reference number will automatically appear if it is submitted correctly. If nothing comes out, contact your insurance or PMVIC provider. Click on the Finish button when done.
Step 4: Pay the Renewal Fee
Choose Proceed to Payment and select your preferred online payment channel. Your chosen payment channel will determine the convenience fee that you have to pay. After you receive a notification confirming your successful transaction, click the continue button to go back to your LTO Portal account.
Step 4: Print your Receipt
Go to the Transaction icon and click the Closed tab under the Transaction Overview window. Search for your renewal transaction and click it. When the page loads, you will see a big bar code. Scroll down, then click the Official Receipt button. A pop-up window will appear, giving you the option to download or print your official receipt.
- The Online Motor Vehicle Renewal of Registration only applies to plain renewal. If you want to change the color of your vehicle or register a modification, you have to do the renewal in person.
- You have to be the current owner of the vehicle and your name has to match the one on the Certificate of Registration.
- Only vehicles that have undergone an inspection by a PMVIC are eligible for online renewal. If you choose to use a Private Emission Testing Center, you have to register your vehicle in the LTO office.
- You have to update your Motor Vehicle Details with the latest plate issuance.
How Do You Tell When It’s Time for Renewal?
You have to follow a schedule for your registration renewal, even if you can do it online. Your plate number determines the month and the week when your renewal is due. The last digit of your plate number shows the month, while the second-to-last digit shows the week. For example, if your plate number ends with 34, you have to renew your registration in the first week of April.
To help you determine if it’s time to renew, please check the tables below. They show the corresponding month and week for each digit in your plate number. You can also visit the LTO website for more information about the online renewal process.
The last digit of your plate number indicates the month in which you must renew your registration.
OF THE PLATE NUMBER
The second-to-last digit of your plate number, on the other hand, corresponds to the weekly deadline for your car registration renewal.
|SECOND TO THE

|1, 2, 3
|1st to 7th of the month (1st week)
|4, 5, 6
|8th to 14th of the month (2nd week)
